¿ES EL REY UN NARRADOR FIABLE? VERDAD, TESTIMONIO E HISTORIA EN CURCIO RUFO Y ARRIANO

Resumen

El episodio del acto heroico de Alejandro Magno en India, en que casi pierde la vida durante el asalto a una ciudad, es aprovechado por dos historiadores —Curcio Rufo (9.5.2) y Arriano (An. 6.11.2-8)— para presentar sendas digresiones en las que se proponen refutar un mismo error: la presencia de Ptolomeo, futuro rey de Egipto, en ese evento. El presente trabajo se propone leer estos dos pasajes desde una perspectiva narratológica y de análisis crítico del discurso para plantear cuestiones como la idea de verdad histórica en la Antigüedad, las relecturas de las fuentes que hacían los historiadores y la construcción retórica del discurso historiográfico.

Abstract

The heroic deed of Alexander in India, when he almost lost his life during the siege of a town, is used by two historians —Curtius Rufus (9.5.2) and Arrian (An. 6.11.2-8)— as a pretext to introduce a digression in their stories. They try to demonstrate the same fact: that Ptolemy, the future king of Egypt, was absent in that occasion. In this paper, I propose to read both passages under the perspective of both narratology and critical discourse analysis to raise some questions on issues as the notion of historical truth in Antiquity, the re-readings that historians made of their sources and the rhetorical structure of the historiographical discourse.
