Resumen

El presente estudio busca realizar un análisis y reflexionar a partir de la obra del historiador británico Arnold Hugh Martin Jones, quien ha sido uno de los más eminentes pensadores en el ámbito de la Edad Antigua y cuya obra The Later Roman Empire, 284–602: A Social, Economic and Administrative Survey transformó el estudio de la Antigüedad tardía. Además de ofrecer un breve recorrido por su producción, se pretende exponer sus principales influencias y las características principales de su metodología histórica, así como valorar la importancia del estudio de la ciudad romana en los trabajos del autor y en la disciplina en general.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyse and consider the work of British historian Arnold Hugh Martin Jones, who was one of the most prominent scholars of Ancient History and whose work The Later Roman Empire, 284–602: A Social, Economic and Administrative Survey changed the study of Late Antiquity. This research addresses his main influences and the key characteristics of his historical methodology, as well as the importance of the Roman city in his works and in the historical discipline in general.
